To The East Side, To a Deluxe Apt in the Sky!
Okay, some of you won’t “get” that reference as I realize a lot of my readers are under 40. It’s from the theme song of The Jeffersons, an old late 1970s TV show. But it applies to me. I’m moving out of a dumpy, low-income apartment on the “bad side of town” to a nicer place on the “East side” near the river. I’ve had nothing but problem the 3 years I’ve lived at my current residence, and yes, it did contribute greatly to my lack of writing efforts. They say a good author needs a positive, bright environment to allow the creativity to flow. Which is why most of chapter 32 was actually written “on location.” That term doesn’t only apply to movies and TV shows. It means I mainly wrote and worked on the chapter when away from my home environment. Some have asked me what I do to get “in the mood.” I travel. I go do things at places I feel at peace and totally relaxed. In July 2020, I found such a place. It’s about 3 hours away from my home town, in north central IL. I will not reveal the exact location or name — but let’s just say, it allows me to really get relaxed and lets the creative juices flow.
Obviously, I can’t afford to drive down there every weekend, so I am hoping my “new digs” will provide me with a more peaceful place to sit down and write. I have so much more to do with this story yet, before I’m ready to say “the end.” With that said, I do want to express my sincere apologies for Chapter 32 taking two years and 9 months to complete. I’m still very mad at myself for that. There’s a lot of things in my life I am seriously trying to change, mentally and physically. I’ve gotten the Covid-19 vaccine (fully as of April 28, 2021), I still wear my mask when in public (even if I’m the only one doing so) and I’m being very safe. But I need to do more, for myself. I need to eat better and exercise more. I also need to say no more. All of this, in the long run will not only be a win for me, but for you all as well. Thank you for bearing with me these past almost 3 years. Life sure does know how to throw us challenges, but we’re going to get through this.
As for Chapter 33 — I’ve already started on it and I have another outline in my head for how I want it to go. 33 is going to be a pivotal chapter, with many loose ends being covered and a few new twists and turns. Sorry, no spoilers!
I will be making a new poll question, or two which will help me gather input for future chapters. There’s certain things I need help with — basically middle school and how certain things are “dealt with” today. Middle school / junior high is a lot different now than it was 30 years ago when I was in that stage. Any and all input is appreciated!
Thanks all. Please stay safe.
